Darfur

The Unitarian Universalist Legislative Ministry of Maryland (UULM-MD) believes we must act to end the genocide in Darfur, where over 300,000 men, women, and children have been killed and at least 2.5 million people have been displaced.  We work with the UU Service Committee as part of the Drumbeat for Darfur campaign, the UU United Nations Office, and the UUA-Washington Office to take action and advocate to:

       Protect civilians – especially women – from the ongoing violence.
       Promote a just and peaceful resolution to the conflict.
       Hold perpetrators of the genocide accountable for crimes against humanity.

UULM-MD supported Maryland’s 2007 Darfur Protection Act – Divestiture from the Republic of Sudan, House Bill 1336, which was enacted.
