The Unitarian Universalist Legislative Ministry of Maryland (UULM-MD) is a statewide advocacy network that is comprised of individual UUs. It works to educate, mobilize and coordinate the advocacy of UUs on specific issues before the Maryland General Assembly. Partnered with like-minded coalitions, UULM-MD provides a voice for UU principles and traditions in the discussions of state and federal human rights issues.
Since it was organized in 2005, UULM-MD has selected annually, three or four issues which are expected to appear for consideration by the Maryland General Assembly, speak to UU values and are of interest to Maryland UUs and UU congregations. The Unitarian Universalist Association has provided the framework for the decision making process, which is based on grounding, accountability, fit and opportunity.
UULM-MD Issue Selection: UULM-MD will continue to work with issues of interest to UUs and UU congregations in Maryland. Do you have an issue that you and/or your congregation would like for UULM-MD to actively support? Look here for a statement of criteria used by the UULM-MD Board in the selection of issues and and the Issue Proposal Form for submission to the Board requesting support for a new issue.
Unitarian Universalists share values and principles, but may still hold different ideas about the best path to achieve them. We anticipate that there will be some who come to different conclusions on issues. As always, we welcome your input!
