Legislative Kickoff was a Success – Important Hearings Begin
Updated: Jan 24
Many of our members attended UULM-MD's Annual Legislative Kickoff on Saturday and got prepared for advocacy in the 2022 legislative session. They heard Delegate Vanessa Atterbeary, Chair of the House Ways & Means Committee, give the keynote address, which included information on last year’s landmark police accountability legislation which she shepherded through the House of Delegates as well as indications of upcoming legislation this year. We were very grateful to have many lawmakers participate as well.
After presentations on Climate Change, Criminal Justice, Immigration and Medical Aid in Dying, attendees participated in breakout sessions on one of these four priority issue areas. In our Membership Meeting, we discussed and approved our new leadership structure, the 2022 Leadership Team, and the priority issues for this session.
Important bill hearings are beginning in earnest on our priorities with climate change and criminal justice bills this week, and immigration bills the following week. Stay tuned for information and opportunities to advocate with your lawmakers!
