Now is the Time for End-of-Life Options!

On Friday, February 28, 2020, the hearing was held on SB 701 - End-of-Life Option Act (Richard E. Israel and Roger 'Pip' Moyer Act) before the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee. A large crowd attended, both proponents and opponents, and 91 people testified. Among those who spoke in support were Rev. Alexa Fraser (UULM-MD's Task Force Chair), Steve Buckingham (UULM-MD Chair), Dr. Jan Bird (UULM-MD Board member) and several other UUs from around the State. In addition, many others sent their personal stories to our issue partner, Compassion and Choices, who provided them to the Committee for their consideration.

Since the same bill failed last year on a tie vote on the floor of the Senate, efforts this year to get the bill out of JPR and approved by the Senate first are critical to success. We need all members to contact their Senators to support this important legislation. If you don't know who represents you in the Maryland Senate, you can find out here.
