Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. It strives to build a world in which the catalytic power of generosity is at the heart of the society we build together, unlocking dignity, opportunity, and equity around the globe.
People can show their generosity in a variety of ways during Giving Tuesday—whether it’s helping a neighbor, advocating for an issue, sharing a skill, or giving to causes— every act of generosity counts. Generosity gives everyone the power to make a positive change in the lives of others and is a fundamental value anyone can act on.
I want to support every request I get!
Luckily for me as a Unitarian Universalist, I can donate to one group that represents my faith in a host of areas and support its work on multiple environmental, racial, economic, and social justice issues!
The Unitarian Universalist Legislative Ministry of Maryland (UULM-MD) is One Stop Shopping for Social Justice Issues in Maryland.
The primary financial support for the work of UULM-MD comes from individual contributions and from our Maryland UU congregations. We need your help to continue the vital work of making liberal religious voices heard, speaking out for fairness and justice in the public arena.
Over the next few weeks, we will explore the issues that we will focus on in the next Legislative Session and how they intersect with each other and our UU values. This week we will focus on Immigration Reform.
Thank you for taking this journey with us; we could not do this without your support. Every email you write, every phone call you make, every donation you make of time or money–YOU are making a difference in Maryland's legislation.

Immigration Update:
In March 1933, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, his polio-stricken legs strapped to heavy metal braces, stood on the steps of the Capitol and comforted a nation... He told the American people, one third of whom were ill-clad, ill-housed and ill-fed, that they had “nothing to fear but fear itself–nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror….” Today, that fear is not nameless–it is named ICE and the terror that it has unleashed in our cities and neighborhoods, among our hardworking immigrant neighbors is not only unjustified but constitutionally questionable.
We have the opportunity when the Maryland General Assembly convenes to end the fear and make our communities safe, not only for our immigrant families, but for ALL Marylanders. Delegate Nicole Williams, (D-PG 22) will introduce a bill to ban 287(g) agreements in the state and Sen. Malcolm Augustine, (D-PG 47) will introduce a bill to prohibit ICE agents from wearing masks and to have visible identification. These bills will ensure that all Marylanders, especially our immigrant neighbors, will feel safe when driving to a hospital, school, or courthouse to keep appointments with immigration officials.
