Postcarding for Democracy in Maryland
Over the next few months, UULM-MD will continue to work with the statewide UU Democracy in Action coalition. Established in 2024, the Coalition meets virtually on the second Thursday of every month, from 7:00 - 8:30 pm. Participants have found it a beneficial way to connect with other UU democracy leaders across Maryland, share ideas and resource materials, and collaborate on get-out-the-vote activities.
Planning is underway for repeating our successful 2024 postcard campaign in which UU congregations wrote specially-designed postcards to newly registered young adults to encourage them to vote in the statewide election, as well as other activities.

Our UU efforts are stronger when we support one another and work together, so please join us! If you'd like to get call-in details for the next Coalition meeting on June 11th, please contact Emily Untermeyer at rockvilledemocracy@gmail.com.

Back By Popular Demand!!
Please Contact Emily Untermeyer if you (or your congregation) are interested in getting a sign.
Protect Democracy - 2026 Elections
This November, democracy is on the ballot in the national election, and the Unitarian Universalist Association's UU the Vote campaign will be active in organizing this effort around the country. And again, UULM-MD will be partnering with the Virginia UU State Action Network, the Reeb Project for Voting Rights of All Souls Church, UUs for Social Justice (UUSJ), and UU the Vote to coordinate the efforts of UU congregations and individuals in the region.

This year, Maryland's Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General and Comptroller are all up for re-election, as well as every member of our General Assembly. Over the past year, we have see how important these offices are in passing laws and protecting our state.
UULM-MD will be taking the lead in organizing statewide to get Marylanders out to vote. Stay tuned for our UU the Vote efforts and step up to make your views heard.

Our "Democracy" pages of this website contain many resources for you and your congregation, including:
-
State-specific election information (MD, PA, VA, WV and DE)
-
School Board races (important for book bans and LGBTQ+ issues)
-
Circuit Court Judges (important for criminal justice issues)

We even have special pages to help UUs "vote your values" and talk to others about issues in ways that reflect our faith's values. This is important since election outreach gives us opportunities to engage in relational organizing, doing deeper dives about our shared values and building community. After developing these skills with people we know, we can then reach out beyond our circle of family and friends to engage potential voters (e.g. using lists provided by movement partners such as  VoteForward, Reclaim Our vote, or State Voices).

In addition, we created videos available to the public about voting that you can access in a YouTube playlist called Your Vote Matters. While they date from 2020, the information they provide is just as relevant today.
