Healthcare and Reproductive Rights in 2025

Because of your support, our state has been able to continue to make progress on health care issues including cutting the uninsured rate in half to 6% since implementing the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Since UULM-MD was established 20 years ago, we have worked to promote legislation and policies which improve the health of our residents, especially underserved communities. Today, Black and Hispanic Marylanders are gaining health insurance at a greater rate than White Marylanders. UULM-MD has been an integral part of the Health Care for All Coalition—which now has over 450 members—working to reduce drug costs. As one of the early faith-based organizations in the coalition, we have effectively provided moral arguments grounded in UU values on coalition priorities. Most of UULM-MD’s funding comes from you and Maryland congregations. Year-end requests are one of our few outreach efforts to you asking for financial support so we can continue our successful advocacy in 2025. Unfortunately,  the progress we have made on health care in Maryland could be negatively affected by potential national changes. However, based on our work with the coalition, we have a history of overcoming the odds and winning many victories over well-funded opposition groups like Big Pharma, which are often impossible to overcome. Maryland was the first state to pass legislation on prescription drug affordability in 2019. In 2025, the priority will be to expand coverage to include more people and provide incentives for young people to obtain coverage.

UULM-MD strives to achieve universal access to affordable, quality health care using innovative and common-sense changes, and it has worked. Maryland is now in the top 5 in the country for health care costs, accessibility, and outcomes.

We will continue to maintain and expand our existing health care programs in Maryland.

We know that we can make a difference this year! Why? Because YOU communicate the importance of voting for UU positions with your lawmakers AND we have legislators and an Administration that listen and care about our issues.
