Dear Advocate:
Thank you for helping Maryland make significant progress in health as a UULM-MD Advocate.Â
In our 20 years, we have concentrated on:
·        Working to achieve universal access to affordable quality health care primarily
with the Health Care for All! Coalition (HCAC) from our start.
·        Working with HCAC to implement and expand the Affordable Care Act (ACA)
including decreasing uninsured individuals in half to 6% with over 400,000
gaining insurance.
·       Assisting low-income Marylanders, who identify as Black and/or Hispanic,
to make the greatest gains in obtaining health insurance as well as passing
significant new legislative funding to address communities with the greatest needs.
·       Creating the nation’s first Prescription Drug Affordability Board with an HCAC of
over 450 organizations which overcame strong opposition from big pharma.
·       Achieving the rank of 5th best in the nation for health care access, cost, and outcomes.
·       Being a leader in protecting women’s rights to reproductive freedom including
passing a referendum to amend the Maryland Constitution by 74%
·        Participating with other organizations to codify LGBTQ+ health legislation,
gender affirming treatment, and programs providing equity.
The challenges presented by the current national Administration, Federal legislators, and the Supreme Court are greater than we ever imagined. Therefore, we need to build on our record of protecting the advancements made in health care in Maryland. The budget problems in Maryland will dominate the General Assembly in 2026. It is essential to strengthen our UU voice as a strong liberal faith that puts into action our beliefs that health care is a human right and that government health care funding and laws should not go backward.
The funding for UULM-MD comes primarily from you and UU congregations. Members of the Leadership Team have pledged to match any year end contributions over $50 to up to $2,000 to provide the resources necessary to sustain our advocacy in 2026.Â
