Let your voice be heard:  Maryland Right to Reproductive Freedom

Tomorrow, November 5, Maryland voters have the opportunity to amend the Maryland Constitution to guarantee reproductive freedom. As Unitarian Universalists, we believe in body autonomy, consent, and more importantly equity, which means “that every person has the right to flourish with inherent dignity and worthiness.” That is why, UULM-MD has supported the legislation leading to Question 1 on the ballot.

We understand that some voters are unclear about Question 1 and may skip it or vote incorrectly. Therefore, it would help for you to clarify to others the importance of VOTING FOR the Amendment which would add language to the Maryland Constitution so every Marylander has the “right to reproductive freedom.” That means the right to an abortion, in-vitro fertilization, contraception, and pregnancy.  The amendment does not make any changes to the current laws, it just codifies the rights we already have.

If you have the ability to get pregnant, this includes having “the ability to make and effectuate decisions to prevent, continue, or end the individual’s pregnancy.” This amendment would guarantee that the State cannot deny or abridge that right unless there is a compelling State interest to do so.

Now’s your chance to let your voice be heard.  A Vote FOR the Maryland Right to Reproductive Freedom Amendment supports adding an article to Maryland’s Constitution that would establish a right to reproductive freedom. A “NO” vote opposes amending Maryland’s Constitution to establish a right to reproductive freedom.

You get to decide.
